Healthy Weight Assessment Training for Care Staff

Course Details:

Accurate weight, height, BMI and waist circumference measurements play an important role in identifying health risks and supporting early intervention. This practical course helps learners develop confidence in carrying out measurements correctly, interpreting results safely and understanding how they relate to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity.

The course also explores how to approach sensitive conversations around weight using supportive, non-judgemental communication. Learners will gain practical skills while understanding the importance of consent, dignity, accurate documentation and working within local policies and scope of practice.

Around 64% of adults in England are currently living with overweight or obesity, increasing the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Accurate BMI, weight and waist circumference measurements play an important role in identifying risk early, supporting prevention and helping healthcare professionals have more informed health promotion conversations.
