Children and Young People’s Asthma Training for Primary Care

Course Details:

Delivered in partnership with Clarion Healthcare Education, this Children and Young People’s Asthma Training provides a comprehensive overview of the assessment and management of asthma in children and young people.

Asthma is the most common long-term medical condition in children in the UK, with around 1 in 11 children and young people living with asthma. CYP asthma training is important because safe care depends on confident assessment, early risk recognition, appropriate follow-up after worsening asthma or an asthma attack, and effective education for children, young people and families.

The course covers CYP asthma assessment, diagnosis, objective testing in primary care, intermittent or interval wheeze, suspected or confirmed asthma by age group, and diagnostic pathways.

Learning Outcomes: Children and Young People’s Asthma Training

  • An overview of asthma in children and young people, including the statistics and introduction to phenotypes

  • Review of pharmacological interventions
  • Identifying children and young people at risk of poor asthma outcomes, difficult-to-manage asthma and when to refer
