Early Warning Signs of Sepsis Training for Healthcare Staff

Course Details:

Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency caused by the body’s overwhelming response to infection. Early signs can sometimes be subtle, but rapid recognition and escalation are essential to reduce the risk of organ failure, septic shock and death.

This practical training course explores the recognition and response to sepsis, including common causes, red flag symptoms, NEWS2 escalation, risk factors and the principles of the Sepsis Six. Learners will also develop awareness of post-sepsis syndrome, communication with families, and the importance of timely assessment and escalation across healthcare and care settings.

There are an estimated 245,000 cases of sepsis each year in the UK, with around 48,000 deaths annually linked to the condition. Early recognition, timely escalation and staff confidence in identifying the warning signs can play a vital role in improving outcomes and potentially saving lives.
