Malnutrition and Dehydration Awareness Training

Course Details:

Good nutrition and hydration are essential for maintaining health, supporting recovery and reducing the risk of complications such as dehydration, malnutrition, pressure damage, infection and falls. Healthcare professionals play a key role in recognising early signs of poor intake, supporting safe eating and drinking, and escalating concerns appropriately.

This practical course explores the importance of nutrition, hydration and person-centred care across healthcare settings. Learners will develop awareness of MUST assessments, dehydration risks, dysphagia, modified diets, feeding support and strategies to encourage safe and effective nutritional intake. The course also highlights the impact poor nutrition and hydration can have on physical health, recovery, cognition and overall wellbeing.

More than 3 million people in the UK are estimated to be either malnourished or at risk of malnutrition, with older adults and people in healthcare settings particularly vulnerable. Poor nutrition and dehydration can increase the risk of falls, infections, pressure ulcers, delayed healing and hospital admission.
