Diabetic Foot Examination and Assessment 

Course Details:

Designed for healthcare professionals working in a range of settings who are involved in the care of people living with diabetes, including Primary Care and community‑based roles.
 

This session provides a comprehensive overview of diabetic foot health, focusing on the identification, assessment, and management of foot complications associated with diabetes. Learners will gain an understanding of national guidance, the importance and frequency of foot checks, and the use of recognised risk assessment tools to support safe and effective practice.

 

 

Participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to perform independent diabetic foot assessments and deliver appropriate foot care education to patients, supporting early intervention, improved patient outcomes, and the reduction of serious complications such as ulceration and amputation.

Learning Outcomes – Diabetic Foot Screening Training

By the end of this CPD-accredited course, participants will be able to:

  • Have an overview about national policy and initiatives for foot care in diabetes.
  • Identify complications of feet in diabetes.
  • Understand the impact of these complications on the individual.
  • Understand the frequency and importance of foot checks in diabetes.
  • Understand the risk assessment process as well as risk assessment tools utilised in diabetic foot assessment (ACT Now, Ipswich Touch the Toe).
  • Use the tools and perform a diabetic foot assessment independently.
  • Understand the basic principles of good foot care in diabetes.
  • Provide diabetic foot care education to patients.
