Colostomy and Ileostomy Care Training for Healthcare Staff
Course Details:
Living with a stoma can have a significant impact on a person’s daily life, confidence and wellbeing. This course gives learners a practical understanding of stoma care, including different stoma types, appliance management, measuring and fitting bags, recognising complications and maintaining healthy peristomal skin.
The session also highlights the importance of providing compassionate, dignified and person-centred care. Poor stoma management can lead to leakage, skin damage, infection, discomfort and avoidable complications, making safe, evidence-based training essential for healthcare and care staff supporting people with stomas.
Around 21,000 people undergo stoma surgery in the UK each year, with many requiring ongoing support from healthcare and care professionals following discharge.
