Person-Centred Dementia Care Training

Course Details:

Supporting individuals living with dementia requires compassionate, person-centred and clinically informed care. This practical course explores the different types of dementia, common signs and symptoms, communication approaches, Mental Capacity Act principles and strategies to support wellbeing, dignity and independence.

Learners will develop confidence in recognising dementia-related changes, communicating effectively, supporting individuals with complex needs and understanding the importance of person-centred care, safeguarding and end of life considerations. The course also explores risk reduction, consent, capacity and practical ways to improve daily living for people affected by dementia.

There are currently around 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK, with numbers projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040. It is estimated that 70% of people in care homes are living with dementia or severe memory problems.
