LARC and Emergency Contraception Update

Course Details:

Effective contraceptive counselling and safer prescribing are essential within primary care, community and sexual health services. This practical course explores combined hormonal contraception, progesterone-only contraception, LARC methods, emergency contraception, UKMEC guidance and safer contraceptive decision-making in clinical practice.

Learners will develop confidence in assessing eligibility, managing common contraception challenges, recognising risks and supporting individuals to make informed choices about their reproductive health. The course also explores newer guidance around GLP-1 agonists, migraine, obesity, menopause and emergency contraception.

It is estimated that 60–70% of contraceptive care in the UK is delivered within general practice settings, meaning primary care teams play a vital role in supporting safer prescribing, reducing unplanned pregnancies and helping individuals make informed choices about their reproductive health.
