ECG Recording and Lead Placement Refresher Training

Course Details:

Accurate ECG interpretation and recognition of abnormal cardiac rhythms are essential skills within healthcare, urgent care and primary care settings. Delayed recognition of arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities or acute coronary syndromes can result in serious patient harm and delayed treatment. This practical ECG update course refreshes knowledge around cardiac anatomy, rhythm recognition, ECG interpretation, escalation and common cardiac emergencies.

Learners will strengthen confidence in recognising common ECG patterns including atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, tachycardias, bundle branch blocks and STEMI changes, while understanding the importance of escalation, professional accountability and working within scope of practice.

Around 100,000 hospital admissions each year in the UK are linked to atrial fibrillation, highlighting the importance of early recognition and appropriate escalation of abnormal ECG findings.

Learning Outcomes – Arrhythmia Recognition Training

By the end of this CPD-accredited course, participants will be able to:

  • Review heart anatomy, physiology, and the conduction system in relation to ECGs.
  • Identify key ECG components (P-waves, QRS, T-waves, intervals) and their significance.
  • Recognise criteria for common arrhythmias and conduction abnormalities.
  • Interpret ECG patterns linked to cardiac conditions, including MI.
  • Understand limitations, errors, and when to escalate for further review.
  • Apply ECG interpretation skills in case studies using critical thinking and problem-solving.
