Course Details:

Safe injection administration is a core clinical skill requiring sound anatomical knowledge, safe medicines practice and effective infection prevention techniques. This practical course explores the safe administration of intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC) and intradermal (ID) injections, alongside site selection, ANTT, sharps safety, consent, accountability and patient-centred care.

Learners will develop a greater understanding of injection technique, medication safety and complication prevention while reinforcing current best practice guidance. Poor injection technique can lead to nerve injury, infection, medication errors, pain, tissue damage and avoidable harm, making regular training and competency assessment essential for healthcare professionals administering injectable medicines.

Unsafe injection practices can contribute to infections, needlestick injuries and medication errors, with the World Health Organization identifying injection safety as a key patient safety priority worldwide.
