Session Aim:
Venepuncture is a commonly performed procedure in healthcare, but if done incorrectly, it can lead to complications such as haematoma, pain, and bruising for the patient. To ensure safe and confident practice, healthcare professionals need to have a thorough understanding of the principles of venepuncture and obtain valid consent from their patients.
This training course is designed to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills for safe venepuncture. Participants will have the opportunity to practice venepuncture techniques using a winged infusion device, needle and holder, and receive guidance and supervision from our experienced clinical nurse educator. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped to perform venepuncture safely and confidently, ensuring the best possible outcomes for their patients.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the associated anatomy and physiology of skin and blood vessels.
- Explore and understand the importance of legislation and regulatory control.
- Understand the importance of informed consent with adults & adolescents.
- Demonstrate good practice of infection prevention & control.
- Understand the equipment required including ANTT.
- Practical understanding of capillary sampling and venepuncture techniques using a needle and holder as well as winged infusion devices.
