Core Adult and Childhood Immunisation and Vaccination Training
Course Details:
This introductory immunisation training equips RPs with advanced knowledge and skills in childhood and adult vaccination programmes. The course covers routine childhood immunisation, adolescent and adult vaccines, complex schedules, and national programme updates.
Participants will gain knowledge and confidence in areas including vaccine policy, immunisation strategy, safe administration, adverse reactions, and professional accountability.
Vaccination schedules evolve, and emerging challenges (vaccine hesitancy, supply constraints, variant threats) make it essential for RPs to have up-to-date training. In recent years, some childhood vaccine uptake has declined below target thresholds in parts of the UK, making strong immunisation programmes even more critical.
Well-trained RPs who understand complex schedules, know how to manage co-administration and safety, and can communicate effectively are key to restoring confidence and improving uptake. This training strengthens clinical competence, supports compliance with UKHSA and NHS England immunisation standards, and empowers practitioners to lead vaccination delivery with confidence.
Learning Outcomes: Foundation Imms & Vaccs Training for GPNs
This nurse-led, CPD-accredited clinical training builds on basic vaccine knowledge and focuses on delivering all UK vaccination programmes, including childhood immunisations. Key content includes:
- The full childhood immunisation schedule, adolescent and catch-up programmes
- Complex vaccine schedules (e.g., meningitis, HPV, MMR, PCV)
- Legal and governance frameworks (PGDs, PSDs, delegation)
- Vaccine safety, co-administration, contraindications, and adverse event recognition
- Cold chain logistics for large and multi-dose programmes
- Communication strategies with parents, vaccine hesitation, and consent

What to Expect
Our Foundation Immunisation Training follows a blended model, in line with the National Minimum Standards for Vaccination Training.
At Hickby Clinical Training, we deliver one full day of face-to-face learning, where participants engage in practical demonstrations, case discussions, and Q&A with a vaccination specialist.
Learners are strongly recommended to complete the NHS England e-learning immunisation modules either before or immediately after attending to fulfil the full two-day learning requirement.
Recommended e-learning modules:
Immunisation e-Learning Programme (e-LfH)
Flu Immunisation Programme (e-LfH)
COVID-19 Vaccination e-Learning (e-LfH)
These modules include detailed content on vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, influenza, shingles, pneumococcal infection, hepatitis B, and RSV.
This blended approach combines the flexibility of e-learning with the depth of expert-led teaching, allowing practitioners to apply theory directly to real clinical challenges. The session supports confident decision-making in complex immunisation scenarios, from co-administration and catch-up schedules to effective communication with parents and patients.
After completing both the e-learning and the Hickby training day, practitioners consolidate their knowledge through supervised practice and a vaccination competency assessment, ensuring they can safely deliver the full immunisation schedule with clinical accuracy and accountability. This model promotes reflective learning, adaptability, and consistent standards across all vaccination settings.
