Catheter Care Training for Healthcare Staff

Course Details:

This Catheter Care training supports both those new to catheter management and staff looking to refresh their knowledge. The session builds a clear understanding of urinary anatomy, catheter types, and the principles behind safe, person‑centred care.

Learners will explore when catheterisation is appropriate, the importance of infection control and ANTT, and how to carry out routine catheter care while maintaining dignity and preventing avoidable harm. The course also highlights complications such as CAUTI, trauma, encrustation, and autonomic dysreflexia, helping staff recognise concerns early and respond safely.

Catheterisation is a routine intervention, yet poor technique or inconsistent practice can lead to significant risk. This course ensures staff feel confident, accountable, and aligned with RCN guidance and best practice, enabling them to deliver safe, sensitive, and effective catheter care.
