Participants will explore the systemic impact of poor bowel function, recognise complications linked to constipation, and develop the practical skills to assess, manage, and support patients in line with RCN guidance and best practice.

Learning Outcomes – Bowel Management Training
By the end of this CPD-accredited course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the bowel and digestive system.
- Recognise common bowel issues, including constipation and diarrhoea.
- Collect and assess stool specimens accurately.
- Understand the role and use of medications in bowel function.
- Appreciate the importance of nutrition and hydration in bowel management.
- Build knowledge of neurogenic bowel and its management.
- Perform safe Digital Rectal Stimulation (DRS).
- Identify complications of DRS and respond appropriately.
- Recognise the physical and psychological impact of bowel management on patients and provide appropriate support.
