Course Details:

Our B12 and Injection Techniques Training is a CPD-accredited, face-to-face course delivered by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators. 

Designed for Registered nurses, other registered practitioners, and trained HCAs, this course provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the administration of vitamin B12. 

Participants will gain an understanding of the crucial role of B12 in the body and its significance in maintaining overall health. All content in this training is developed in accordance with NICE guidance and BMA best practice.

An estimated 3 million intramuscular vitamin B12 injections are prescribed annually in general practice, up from around 2 million in 2015, underscoring how crucial competent B12 administration is for managing deficiency, patient safety, and quality care in primary care settings. Whether you are new to administering injections or seeking to refresh your skills, this training ensures you gain the skills to confidently apply best practices.

Learning Outcomes – B12 Injections

By the end of this CPD-accredited course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the role of vitamin B12 in the body and its importance in maintaining health.
  • Identify the causes and risk factors of B12 deficiency, including pernicious anaemia, and the consequences of untreated deficiency.
  • Describe the different types of B12 supplements available, their routes of administration and their dosages.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively administer B12 injections through various routes of administration, including intramuscular injections.
  • Explain the steps involved in preparing and administering B12 injections, including proper documentation and informed consent.
  • Discuss potential contraindications and side effects associated with B12 administration, and describe appropriate responses to any adverse events that may occur.
  • Identify measures for monitoring patients during and after B12 administration, including the recognition and management of any adverse reactions
