Diabetes and Insulin Administration
Course Overview
This 3 hour training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first hand clinical experience.

This content is aimed at Registered Healthcare professionals and Senior Care Assistants with Insulin Administration as part of their scope of practice - across all healthcare settings. Suitable for those new to diabetes management or looking for an update or to review current practice.
Session Aim:
The aim of this course is to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of diabetes and insulin administration, enabling them to effectively recognise and manage different types of diabetes, administer insulin safely, monitor blood glucose levels accurately, and implement appropriate medical and lifestyle treatments.
Participants will also gain awareness of diabetic eyecare and footcare, emphasising the importance of holistic management for individuals with diabetes. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care and support to individuals living with diabetes.
Learning Outcomes:
- Differentiate between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and acknowledge less common forms of diabetes
- Understand the anatomy & physiology of blood sugar regulation, including the roles of glucagon and insulin
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of diabetes
- Explore the emotional challenges faced by individual living with diabetes
- Develop practical skills in blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration
- Identify complications of diabetes including symptoms of hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia and diabetic ketoacidosis
- Prevention of deterioration with a brief overview foot and eye care
- Understand the various types of insulin medications and their administration
