This 3-hour training course will be delivered by an experienced Clinical Nurse Educator who is knowledgeable in all aspects of injection administration. The course includes the provision of training equipment for simulated practice, allowing learners to gain hands-on experience in a safe and controlled environment.
Suitable For:
This content is aimed at healthcare staff across all settings. Suitable for those new to injections or those looking to enhance their current skills/knowledge and review current practice.
Session Aim:
The aim of this blended learning course is to equip participants with the theoretical and practical skills necessary for safe and effective injection administration in a classroom environment. By the end of the course, learners will have a broad understanding of injection techniques and common injectable medications, excluding intravenous administration.
Unsafe injection practices can have serious consequences for patients, including nerve damage, abscesses, and pain, which can result in potential legal action. Therefore, this session aims to provide learners with the necessary skills and confidence to administer injections safely, as well as an understanding of how to report adverse drug reactions and identify the legal implications of injection administration.
The course will cover intramuscular injection using the dorsogluteal, vastus lateralis, and ventrogluteal sites, subcutaneous injections using a prefilled syringe with a non-detachable needle, subcutaneous injection of insulin, and intramuscular injection using the deltoid site. By the end of the course, learners will have demonstrated theoretical and practical skills required for safe injection administration, allowing them to provide optimal care to patients.
