Course Overview

This 3 hour session will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first hand clinical experience.

Suitable For:
This content is aimed at healthcare staff across all healthcare settings. Suitable for those new to Infection, Prevention and Control or those looking to enhance their current skills and knowledge or review current practice.

Session Aim:
The aim of this Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) training session is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of their accountability and responsibility in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment, as well as to equip them with the knowledge and skills to prevent the spread of infections.

Poor infection prevention and control in healthcare can lead to the spread of infectious diseases, which can result in severe health consequences for both patients and healthcare workers, and in some cases, even death. Throughout this session, participants will learn about the essential principles of IPC, including the causes of infections and the ways they can be spread.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Have an awareness of the common forms of infection and be ale to identify who is at risk.
  • Explain the chain of infection and how to break the chain.
  • Understand how infection may spread in your working environment.
  • Understand how hand hygiene is important in the spread and prevention of infection.
  • Identify and be able to use, types of personal protective equipment, and when they are used to help stop the spread of infection.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to use and dispose of sharps safely.
  • Be able to describe how asepsis is imperative in the spread and prevention of infection.
  • Be able to complete ANTT to assist in breaking the chain of spread and prevention of infection.
