Immunisation Training (Foundation RPs)
Course Overview
This 8 hours training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first hand clinical knowledge, drawing on their own experience.
Suitable For:
This content is aimed at Registered Practitioners and Allied Healthcare Professionals new to vaccinations and looking to engage in any aspect of immunisation. Adapted for a range of settings including Primary Care.
Session Aim:
Vaccination coverage has played a crucial role in reducing the severity of COVID-19 cases and minimising the strain on healthcare systems. The aim of this session is to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care by providing accurate and up-to-date information about diseases, immunisations, and vaccines. This course will help participants support individuals in making informed decisions about vaccination, promote public confidence in vaccination, and improve the uptake of immunisation.
Additionally, the session will focus on demonstrating knowledge in vaccine storage and distribution, including the cold chain process, as well as vaccine administration and sharps disposal processes.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain an understanding of vaccines/immunisations and why we vaccinate.
- Support individuals to make informed decisions about vaccination.
- Promote public confidence in vaccination and improve the uptake of immunisation.
- Understand barriers to vaccination.
- Be aware of underpinning law, regulations and ethics, consent and accountability.
- Gain understanding in vaccine storage, distribution, and disposal of vaccines including cold chain.
- Have an overview of medication management, PSDs / PGDs, allergies and anaphylaxis.
- Recap ANTT, injection technique including site, administration, sharps safety and Baby/Child Immunisation techniques.
