Course Overview
This 3-hour training course will be taught by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first-hand experience in caring for patients who require enteral feeding through PEG, gastrostomy, and nasogastric tubes.

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who frequently interact with enteral feeding patients.
Session Aim:
The aim of this training course is to equip learners with both theoretical and practical knowledge of safe gastrostomy care and management for individuals who require enteral nutrition via mechanical access nutrition devices.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to identify different types of enteral feeding, demonstrate proper medication administration techniques, and utilise necessary equipment and ancillary items.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract and how it relates to gastrostomy tube feeding.
- Identify and differentiate between the various types of tubes available and their applications.
- Describe the indications and contraindications for gastrostomy tube insertion, and understand the risks and benefits associated with the procedure.
- Recognise and manage common complications associated with gastrostomy tube feeding, including tube dislodgement, blockage, and infection.
- Develop practical skills in caring for and maintaining gastrostomy tubes, including feed, fluid, and medication administration.
- Understand the importance of oral hygiene and mouth care in individuals receiving gastrostomy tube feeding.
- Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding gastrostomy tube care and management.
