Course Overview
This 3 hour training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator experienced in Stoma Care Training.
Suitable For:
Healthcare professionals across all environments, already caring for ostomates wanting to enhance their current skills/knowledge and review current practice. Or those unfamiliar to stoma care nursing looking to acquire new skills.
Session Aim:
The course will explore the functions of the digestive system, shedding light on the Colostomy, Illeostomy, and Urostomy procedures. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge about the post-operative care required for Stoma, understanding the significance of proper maintenance to ensure optimal health and well-being. Additionally, the session will cover the correct procedures for applying a Stoma pouch and acquaint learners with the necessary
equipment involved.
One of the primary objectives of this course is to enable learners to recognise the basic anatomy and physiology associated with a Stoma. Through engaging content and interactive activities, participants will become familiar with the intricate details of Stoma structure and function. Furthermore, the course aims to instill confidence and comfort in learners when it comes to accurately measuring a Stoma, an essential skill for effective Stoma care. By the end of the
training, participants will have acquired a solid foundation in understanding Stoma anatomy and physiology, as well as the practical skills required for proper measurement.
