Course Overview
This 3 hour training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first hand clinical experience.

This content is aimed at Registered Healthcare professionals and Senior Care Assistants with Insulin Administration as part of their scope of practice - across all healthcare settings. Suitable for those new to diabetes management or looking for an update or to review current practice.
Session Aim:
The aim of this course is to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of diabetes and insulin administration, enabling them to effectively recognise and manage different types of diabetes, administer insulin safely, monitor blood glucose levels accurately, and implement appropriate medical and lifestyle treatments.
Participants will also gain awareness of diabetic eyecare and footcare, emphasising the importance of holistic management for individuals with diabetes. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care and support to individuals living with diabetes.
Learning Outcomes:
- Distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, understanding their fundamental differences.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the causes and progression of diabetes, including its various stages and contributing factors.
- Identify the indicators and symptoms of diabetes, including hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, enabling prompt recognition and appropriate action.
- Acquire proficiency in performing accurate blood glucose monitoring, ensuring effective monitoring techniques and accurate interpretation of results.
- Develop familiarity with medical and lifestyle interventions for preventing and managing
diabetes, including insulin administration and carbohydrate counting. - Cultivate an understanding of diabetic eyecare and footcare, recognising their significance in the overall management and well-being of individuals with diabetes.
