Week 4 Learning Outcomes:
Catheter Care:
- How the law and accountability applies to catheter care.
- Review female and male anatomy & physiology.
- To understand the reasons why a person might need a catheter and the risks associated with it.
- To understand the importance of Infection control and ANTT.
- How to carry out catheter care safely.
- The importance of recording relevant documentation relating to catheter care in care plans.
Gastrostomy Care including PEG Feeding & Stoma Care:
- Understand gastrointestinal tract anatomy and physiology in relation to gastrostomy tube feeding.
- Differentiate between various gastrostomy/feeding tube types and their applications.
- Explain gastrostomy tube insertion indications and contraindications, including associated risks and benefits.
- Grasp enteral feeding principles, encompassing types of tubes and their uses.
- Address common gastrostomy tube feeding complications, such as dislodgement, blockage, and infection.
- Acquire practical skills in gastrostomy tube care and maintenance, including administering feed, fluids, and medication.
- Acknowledge the significance of oral hygiene and mouth care for individualsreceiving gastrostomy tube feeding.
- Effectively communicate with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding gastrostomy tube care and management.
