Introduction to UpSkill SCC, Reflective Practice, Fundamentals of Infection Control, Recognising a Deteriorating Patient, Sepsis Awareness and Measuring Observations.
Week 1 Learning Outcomes:
Fundamentals of Infection Control:
- Why is infection control important?
- Understand accountability and responsibility.
- Knowledge of infectious agent contact and the importance of hand hygiene.
- Knowledge of handling clinical waste and spillages in a clinical setting.
- The importance of equipment decontamination using ANTT.
- Understanding the clean clinical environment
Recognising a Deteriorating patient, Sepsis Awareness and Measuring Observations:
- Utilise an ABCDE approach to recognise a deteriorating patient using a simple ‘look, listen, feel’ method.
- Understand what ‘normal’ physical observation parameters are.
- Demonstrate the ability to use NEWS2 chart and plan care.
- Identify Care home specific tools that can support the escalation of an unwell resident.
- Understand the SBARD format for giving information in a logical way to ensure the most accurate picture is given to other staff or HCP.
Reflective Practice:
- What is reflective practice.
- What are the key principles to reflection.
- Models to support you in reflecting including use of templates.
- Identifying and implementing improvements.
- Barriers to reflection.
- Top tips to takeaway to support you in self reflection
