Management of Central Venous Access Devices
Course Overview
This 3 hour training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with first hand clinical experience.

This course is suitable for Registered healthcare professionals looking to enhance their current skills / knowledge and review current practice or looking for acquire new skills.
Session Aim:
Central venous access devices provide necessary access for the administration of infusion therapy in acute care and home care settings. Infections related to vascular access devices may be caused by ineffective or improper care and maintenance of these devices. This course promotes best practice and aims to reduce CVAD complications.
This session aims to provide all attendees with the knowledge and understanding of how to manage CVADs.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the underpinning legislation and accountability surrounding accessing central venous access devices (CVADs).
- Demonstrate infection control and aseptic non touch technique.
- Recognise the anatomy and physiology associated with CVADs.
- Identify complications that can be caused by CVADs.
- Demonstrate practical skills of safely accessing CVADs.
