Diabetic Foot Assessment
Course Overview
This half day (3 hour) course will be delivered by an experienced Clinical Nurse Educator with first-hand experience of managing patients with diabetes.
Suitable For:
This content is aimed at healthcare staff in a range of settings, including all surgery staff in a Primary Care setting.
Session Aim:
According to Diabetes UK, people with diabetes are 20 times more likely to experience amputations than those without diabetes. Around 7,000 diabetes-related amputations are carried out each year in England alone.
The aim of this course is to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify, assess, and manage foot complications in diabetes patients.
By understanding national policies, risk assessment tools, and the importance of foot checks, learners will be able to perform independent foot assessments and provide diabetes foot care education to patients, ultimately improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of serious complications.

- Have an overview about national policy and initiatives for foot care in Diabetes.
- Be able to identify complications of feet in Diabetes.
- Be able to understand the impact of these complications on the individual.
- To understand the frequency and importance of foot checks in Diabetes.
- Understand the risk assessment process as well as risk assessment tools utilised in Diabetes foot assessment.
- Be able to use the tools and perform a Diabetes foot assessment independently.
- To understand the basic principles of good foot care in diabetes.
- Be able to provide Diabetes foot care education to patients.
